Tom became a rail enthusiast at age 11 and began taking slide photos with his simple Voigtländer camera in 1978.

In 1987, he hired on with Amtrak as a ticket agent at Hartford Station, Connecticut. A short time later he became a conductor in Boston, Massachusetts with MBTA Commuter Rail, contracted out to Amtrak. In 1999 he relocated to the Pacific Northwest region and continued working as a conductor with the Amtrak Cascades service between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with occasional Empire Builder runs to Spokane, Washington, and back.

He has taken many thousands of photos from all over the USA on his many railfanning trips. His goal is to preserve and to provide this historical photo record for the world to see. Much of this archive contains equipment and stations that are no longer in service or no longer exist.

His best and/or most historically significant photos will be published here on this site. Due to the large number of photos in his library, publishing them to this archive will take time but the archive will continue to grow. All photos will be carefully indexed and cataloged so that you can search for what you are looking for by using the archive’s flexible and comprehensive search engine.

Please contact us if you wish to use any of Tom’s photos and we can discuss your needs. Please identify the photos of interest by referencing the Photo ID numbers in your correspondence.
